An I.T. company that specialises in storing vital business computerised information in a secure environment has opened a new centre.

The opening of the new North Tyneside Data and Business Recovery Centre by business communications specialist Knowledge I.T. marks the second stage completion of a £5m investment strategy by the company.

Opened by the chairman of regional development agency One NorthEast (ONE), Margaret Fay, and former Newcastle United hero Peter Beardsley, the new Tier Three North Tyneside Data and Business Recovery Centre at Silverlink has cost £1.3m to develop.

It is the second of three data and business recovery centres Knowledge I.T. is bringing on stream under an ambitious three-year growth plan. A facility on Wearside has been operating since 2004 and plans are being finalised to open a third at the company’s Washington head offices in summer 2008.

The 10,000sq ft facility enables companies to safely and securely store off-site back-up copies of electronic documents, data and other important commercial information. Customers will be able to access and retrieve these easily should anything like a flood, fire, human error, terrorist attack or computer virus destroy the original electronic version, enabling them to get their business back up and running as soon as possible. Forty three per cent of companies that suffer a major loss of computer records never reopen for business, while 51% close within two years and only 6% survive long-term, market research has shown.

ONE chairman Mrs Fay said: “Knowledge I.T. is using cutting edge technology to provide businesses with invaluable disaster recovery services. It is great to be able to offer support to such a dynamic North-East business.”
